A naked portrayal of the Mona Lisa, which was once attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, forms one of the highlights of the biggest exhibition ever held on the Renaissance genius.

The mysterious portrait of a semi-nude woman, looking straight at the viewer with an enigmatic smile and with her hands crossed, bears a remarkable resemblance to Leonardo’s world famous painting.

Hidden for almost a century within the panelled walls of a library, the portrait appears to have been inspired by the Mona Lisa, which hangs in the Louvre Museum in Paris and was painted by the Italian master in the early 1500s.

It will form one of the centrepieces of a new exhibition at the Museo Ideale in the Tuscan town of Vinci, near Florence, where Leonardo was born in 1452.

“The frontal look, the position of the hands, the spatial conception of the landscape, with columns at the sides, show a clear link with the Mona Lisa’s iconographic theme,” Alessandro Vezzosi, director of the museum, told Discovery News.

Tennis ace Sharapova

Former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova presented a prototype dress to reporters that is designed to light up when the wearer’s mobile telephone rings.

British fashion student Georgie Davies dreamed up the knee-length short-sleeved white dress as part of a school project with mobile phone-maker Sony Ericsson to figure out ways of incorporating new technology into fashion.

Davies said the dress is designed to eventually be connected to the wearer’s phone by Bluetooth wireless technology, so she can be alerted to a call even in noisiest of places.

“When you’re in a pub or a bar, you can never, ever hear your phone,” 20-year-old Davies told Reuters on Wednesday.

One shoulder of the dress down to the hip is embellished with translucent white scales that move and light up.

Sharapova showed off the dress to a gaggle of photographers and a crowd of passers-by from the window of a luxury department store in central London.

ants-watch_pcYxO_6648

Ants look confused in real life, going about their daily routine, and even more confusing when on a watch. I mean, confusing for people like me who’re not good at mathematics. The “Ants Watch” (featured above) with LED ants in various color combinations, depending on the current time, requires at least basic mathematic skills to know it. Try it out – the ‘how-to-read’ guide is right above. At least, I won’t shell $207  for a daily math dose for sure.

The Chanel handbag collection Paris Moscow Fall 2009 debuted classic Chanel as well as theme inspired bags. I really like the overall collection, but I wouldn’t add any of the Moscow themed bags to my personal collection. I’ll list the bags in the order of my favorites, with the first being the best.

chinese-cheongsamThe cheongsam, or Qipao in Chinese, is evolved from a kind of ancient clothing of Manchu ethnic minority. In ancient times, it generally referred to long gowns worn by the people of Manchuria, Mongolia and the Eight-Banner.

In the early years of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), long gowns featured collarless, narrow cuff in the shape of a horse’s hoof, buttons down the left front, four slits and a fitting waist. Wearers usually coiled up their cuff, and put it down when hunting or battling to cover the back of hand. In winter, the cuff could serve to prevent cold. The gown had four slits, with one on the left, right, front and back, which reached the knees. It was fitted to the body and rather warm. Fastened with a waistband, the long gown could hold solid food and utensils when people went out hunting. Men’s long gowns were mostly blue, gray or green; and women’s, white.

Another feature of Manchu cheongsam was that people generally wore it plus a waistcoat that was either with buttons down the front, a twisted front, or a front in the shape of lute, etc.

When the early Manchu rulers came to China proper, they moved their capital to Beijing and cheongsam began to spread in the Central Plains. The Qing Dynasty unified China, and unified the nationwide costume as well. At that time, men wore a long gown and a mandarin jacket over the gown, while women wore cheongsam. Although the 1911 Revolution toppled the rule of the Qing (Manchu) Dynasty, the female dress survived the political change and, with succeeding improvements, has become the traditional dress for Chinese women.

Leather products like wallets and belts are some of the things which are most commonly used in the daily life. Be it a girl or a boy, man or woman – almost all of them use wallets and belts.

Some time back leather wallets and belts were best presented in leather. There was a time when animal fur displayed itself in the elite hands. Things however changed with time. Animal fur was banned in almost every country and leather was gradually replaced with Rexene and other soft material which flooded the market. Though fur lost its sheen, still leather was still in the market and today whosoever has a leather belt or a wallet, he/she considers it a prized possession.

Wallets come in various designs and colors; but in case of men, the basic colors remain the same – black, brown and cherry red. Whereas in case of women, not only the color of wallets (purses) have a varied range but also the belts. Pink, white, red, orange, blue, green, black, crème, brown, peach and so on make the most of the wallets, purses and belts.

The main difference in the men’s and women’s is the size. Women’s purse are either sleek and long or a big as a small bag. There are categorized as hand purse and hand bags. Both of them have different functions. Hand purse are generally used in parties or small functions and handbags are generally used while traveling or for office as they have bigger capacity to carry things. Men’s wallets on the other hand are smaller in size, generally the size of palm and have different pockets to carry a number of cards. There are small sections or separators which add to the capacity of the wallets.
